Idealism
In regards to transcendentalism, Idealism is the concept that objects exists independent from the mind which generates perception and gives meaning to the object. This means that the same object or concept can be perceived differently depending on the person and their experiences. While the swastika may represent oppression,fascism, and war to many it is also an ancient symbol once utilized by many cultures around the world. In many of these cultures it was a "positive symbol" representing freedom or spirituality. It was not until the atrocious acts of the Nazis that this symbol was given a negative connotation.
Role Playing Games
Role playing games represent the concept of Idealism in many ways. In these games you are given a multitude of choices which affect the outcome of the story and the actions of your character. There are often many factions, each with their own agenda, philosophies and perceptions. The line between good and bad is incredibly thin as the character learns the motives and reasons behind the factions intentions and they must decide which is the "right" choice.
Role playing games also provide a unique, interactive perspective of how interactions affect our perceptions. Since it is a game time progresses relatively fast allowing for adequate reflection almost immediately. The randomness of the events can trigger certain reactions which put the character at odds with a certain group or person, giving the player a negative disposition. It can however be later revealed that the person or group had good intentions and that you were the one who was in fact perceiving things negatively.

Lee Daniels Precious provides a heart felt story of how perceptions affect and influence a person despite objective motives. In the eyes of her parents, Precious was a worthless member of the Harlem ghetto, destined to amount to nothing. These perceptions mentally damage Precious who simply desires a normal life free from the criticisms of others. Her parents however are not the only ones who interacted with precious. Upon transferring to an alternative school Precious meets Ms. Weiss, someone who believes in her and sees all the objective negatives of her life. Weiss has experienced many people throughout her life who have gone through troubled childhoods such as precious and it is because of these experiences that she is able to connect so well.
